Defying Gravity

I had an assignment for english class that involves picking three songs that we relate to stories in our own life, and finding or creating a piece of art that fit the mood of both the story and the song. I chose creating over finding, being an artist and all. This is the third piece, and is based on the song "Defying Gravity" from Wicked, the musical about the life of the Wicked Witch of the West.

The most specific moment this picture relates to is the day I got my college acceptance letter - this is pretty much how I felt. But more than that, it's a feeling that's been growing all year. A feeling that I can do anything, that I can achieve, that I can leap out of this world and catch a star.

"So if you care to find me, look to the western sky. As someone told me lately, everyone deserves a chance to fly. And if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free. To those who'd ground me, take a message back from me. Tell them how I am defying gravity. I'm flying high, defying gravity, and soon I'll match them in reknown. And nobody in all of Oz, no wizard that there is or was, is ever gonna bring me down."

I really love this piece - it's probably the favourite thing I've made in a long time, along with Free Fallin'. It's a simple piece, but I think it conveys what I mean.

Comments, compliments, critiques all appreciated, though not as much with the critiques, since I'm happy with this as is.
